CHARLES UMLAUF: FLIGHT AND FALL
Short documentary film

“Charles Umlauf was an artist and bronze sculptor whose work spanned multiple mediums, scales, and subject matters. What makes his body of work so singular and captivating, however, is its many contrasts and contradictions—its dualities.

Love and hate, light and dark, sacred and profane.

As an artist Umlauf was interested in the entire breadth of human nature, while still imbuing all of his work with enormous compassion and affection.

What made this production so special and enjoyable was that it gradually became as much a portrait of Dr. Louis Waldman—the art historian interviewed in the film—who sought with his analysis to share Umlauf’s message of, “empathy, acceptance, and justice for all of humanity.”

The name of the documentary, Flight and Fall, comes from a gallery exhibition originally produced by Director of the Charles Umlauf sculpture garden and museum, Dr. Katie Robinson Edwards, who is featured throughout the film with her poetic insights about art, history, and life.”
